notes from the hospital bed

Well, here I am. Sitting in the hospital again. This is the third admission during the pregnancy. This time, I was admitted on Friday afternoon for having low amniotic fluid. They hooked me up to a fetal heart monitor, a contraction monitor and an IV. The purpose was to try to increase my blood volume by increasing my fluid intake (no, I was not dehydrated)-by increasing my blood volume, it would in turn increase Ceci's blood volume and make her urinate more, which would create more amniotic fluid. Apparently, this didn't happen though. I have been on bed rest for the past 3 days and today's ultrasound showed that the amniotic fluid had not increased, but decreased. Dr. Brown came at 1:00 today and was ticked off that they had not taken me down for the test yet. Within about 15 minutes, I was carted off to the ultrasound room. They measured all of her organs, watched her move and breath and then measured the fluid. The technician was not able to measure my cervix because Ceci's head was so far down in the birth canal. This is reassuring since I have been feeling so much pressure down there. On Friday, I was measuring 1-2 cm dilated and "thinned out" so I am hoping that I have progressed. At this point, I am waiting to hear back from the doctor so that we can find out whether or not we will have this baby tomorrow. Even if I am not having the baby this week though, I will be sent home on bed rest for the at least the next week, if not two. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Say your prayers for a healthy baby!!! More later!

Work Baby Shower

Today, my co-workers held a baby shower for me and Cecilia! They were all very generous. Our office manager, Belicia, made lasagna and it was delicious! Our morning secretary made a huge salad. Our afternoon secretary brought sweet tea. We also had cake and presents! I had a great time and I really appreciated all the hard work everyone put into the party. I know that we will get a lot of use out of the gifts we received. I am looking forward to having a baby to put into the pack-n-play!

preparations continue

Today, I went to my friend's sister's house and bought several items from her that she was no longer using. I got a basinett for our house, a stroller with car seat bases for Mom & Dad's house, a boppy pillow and a little coat. This was awesome because I am trying to get the duplicate stuff covered for the grandparents so that they can have everything they need without having to tote stuff back and forth between houses. I then went to my parent's house where we unloaded all of their things that I had acquired. While I was at their house, I was presented with a large box from my grandmother, Mimi. This box was filled with heirloom baby clothes that mom and my two uncles wore as infants. There were several dresses, sweaters, day gowns and bonnets. They are BEAUTIFUL!!! I brought them home and hung them up in the armoir in Ceci's room. I can't wait to dress her up in them! Included in all of the boxed things was the "coming home" outfit that I will be using to dress Ceci in to "come home" from the hospital. So delicate and exquisite-I am sure she will look like a princess or a little doll in them. Next weekend is the baby shower. Getting all of this together is making me more and more excited for her arrival. I just hope that things go smoothly! Say your prayers for us because we are in the home stretch!

a very good report

Today, I went to see my OBGYN. She told me that I have not progressed any since my last appointment. She said that Cecilia is definitly head down and that she is "in position"! I asked her about the medication that I had recently mentioned on a previous blog. She said she understood my concerns but that none of her patients have had problems with it in the past. She said that at this point, she I don't have to take it anyway because she would no longer try to stop labor if it started!!! This made me EXTREMELY HAPPY!!! I am so ready for her to be here! Now, I say-"BRING HER ON!!!"

It snowed...or was it a figment of my imagination?

We got 12 weather e-warn messages during the night. They all stated that we were in line for a major snow event and were under a "heavy snow warning". I woke up at 6:04am and found that it was snowing. There was white stuff all over the ground and it covered the roof of the house. I took pictures because it really wasn't that cold outside and I wondered how long it would last. I went back to bed and fell asleep. At 11:26am, I went back outside with the dog. I took more pictures because there was very little trace of the snow left. I began to wonder whether it was a figment of my imagination. 5 1/2 hours earlier, there was snow everywhere. Currently, you can't tell it even snowed or that there was precipitation at all. Did I make it all up, was it all a dream? Or...is it the crazy Alabama weather at it again?
